History & Info: As legend has it, in Fujian’s Anxi County there was an abandoned temple for the Goddess of Mercy - Guan Yin. Every day, a farmer named Wei would pass the temple and feel terrible for its neglect. Being poor, he did not have the means to fix the temple, but began to sweep and light a candle once a week to honor the Goddess. After many months of faithfully cleaning, Guan Yin appeared to Wei in a dream. She told him that behind the temple in a cave was a great treasure, and he could take it only if he shared it with others. This was where he discovered a small plant. The plant produced one of the most famous teas in all of China. Wei shared the leaves with the village, which prospered, and the temple was restored to its full beauty. This is the legend of how the “Iron Goddess of Mercy’” oolong tea was introduced to the world. With its fine taste and health promoting properties, one can easily appreciate the fortune of having this excellent tea bestowed to man by the Goddess.
Tie Guan Yin is among the list of Chinese most famous teas. It is popular for its robust taste along with its anti-aging benefits. Oolong tea is good to drink after greasy meals to help support digestive functions. Drinking oolong regularly helps to alkalize the digestive tract, bloodstream, and cellular fluid, reducing acidity and assisting in the detoxification of the body.
Enjoy a cup of health!
